What Is a Dental Emergency?
We treat a wide range of dental emergencies in our Troy office, including the following:
- Knocked-out tooth — When your tooth gets completely knocked out, we need to see you within a couple of hours. Without touching its roots, try to reinsert your tooth into the socket. If that doesn’t work, store it inside your cheek or a glass of milk until you can reach our office.
- Severe toothache — A toothache that doesn’t subside on its own or when you take Tylenol or ibuprofen could indicate nerve damage or a serious infection. Try placing an ice pack on the outside of your face to numb the area, and call us right away.
- Abscessed tooth — If you have tooth pain, facial swelling, or fever, you could have a serious infection. If left untreated, an abscess can spread and threaten your health. It’s essential to contact our office immediately.
- Broken or cracked tooth — Even if it doesn’t hurt, a broken tooth can allow harmful bacteria to enter the area. Please get in touch with us for an appointment.
- Lost crown or filling — To protect your tooth from further decay or damage, it’s best to schedule a visit so we can replace your restoration.
- Soft tissue injury — When your tongue, cheek, or gums don’t stop bleeding even after you apply pressure for several minutes, you should call our office. However, if you’re bleeding severely or think you might have a broken jaw, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
