Dr. Ted Degenhardt (Dr. D) has served Southeastern Michigan since 1979. A proud alumnus of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, Michigan State University, and the University of Detroit Dental School, Dr. D excels in providing quality dental care with a compassionate touch. Together with his team, he offers comprehensive, practical, and state-of-the-art dental services.

 

Dr. D's dedication to staying at the forefront of dentistry is unwavering. He has completed all five continuums at the prestigious L.D. Pankey Institute for Continuing Education, a testament to his commitment to learning and growth. In addition, he has undertaken intensive mini-residencies in oral surgery and endodontics, and continuously hones his skills in cosmetic, restorative, and pediatric dentistry. This ensures that his patients receive the most advanced and effective treatments available.

 

Dr. D's commitment to his profession extends beyond his practice. He has served as the president of the Detroit Dental Clinic Club and maintains active memberships in several esteemed organizations, including:

 

Dr. Chris Degenhardt (Dr. Chris) is a passionate dental professional whose diverse interests and experiences contribute to his approachable and dynamic chairside manner.

 

A proud Michigan State University alumnus, Dr. Degenhardt earned his Bachelor of Science before pursuing his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, graduating in 2018. His commitment to community service was evident during his education, as he participated in dental missions to Haiti and the Philippines and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul's Dental Clinic in Detroit.

 

At Degenhardt Dental, Dr. Degenhardt finds joy in his profession. "A day at work at Degenhardt Dental, for me, isn't work," he explains. "I enjoy being with our employees and patients, learning about their lives and families."

 

Beyond dentistry, Dr. Degenhardt leads an active life filled with varied interests:

 

Sports Enthusiast: An avid MSU football and basketball fan, he enjoys watching various sports. He actively participates in the Detroit City Football Leagues, playing winter men's league and summer co-ed soccer.

 

Golf: Always striving for improvement, Dr. Degenhardt enjoys both playing golf and practicing at the driving range.

 

Soccer Fan: A devoted supporter of Tottenham Hotspur FC since 2007, he hopes to return to London someday to watch another live match.

 

Sailing: With a rich background in sailing since childhood, Dr. Degenhardt has experience as an instructor and competitive racer. He has completed multiple Chicago to Mackinac and Port Huron to Mackinac races and still enjoys leisurely cruises when possible.

 

Language Enthusiast: Self-taught in German, Dr. Degenhardt continues to improve his language skills by reading German books to his children, Sutton and Graham, hoping to foster their interest in the language.

 

Dr. Degenhardt's professional expertise and diverse personal interests create a well-rounded approach to patient care. His experience working in a dental office in Cologne, Germany, enhanced his language skills and broadened his perspective on global dental practices.

 

Committed to staying at the forefront of dental advancements, Dr. Degenhardt actively pursues continuing education, focusing on implantology. His journey has resulted in a healthcare provider who combines technical expertise with a genuine passion for patient care and a zest for life beyond the dental chair. 

Debbie, our dedicated Practice Manager since 2018, is one of the first faces you'll see when you visit Degenhardt Dental. She earned an Associate's Degree from Oakland Community College and a Dental Business Professional certification from the Michigan Dental Association. Having been with our practice since 1993, her relationships with patients and vast knowledge of day-to-day operations allow Debbie to oversee all aspects of our practice expertly.

 

As an active member of the American Association of Dental Office Managers and the Dental Managers Society of Metro Detroit, Debbie ensures our office stays at the forefront of dental practice management. In 2024, she earned the FAADOM designation—Fellow of the American Association of Dental Office Management. Her extensive knowledge of scheduling, finances, and insurance allows her to skillfully guide patients, maximizing their benefits and creating stress-free experiences. 

 

Debbie's warm personality and commitment to going the extra mile to make patients smile are at the core of her work. She fosters a welcoming atmosphere and takes pride in leading our team to operate professionally and cohesively, delivering exceptional service in a relaxed environment. Interestingly, Debbie was once a high-anxiety patient herself, giving her unique insight into patient care.

 

This lifelong Michigan resident enjoys boating, walking, reading, and scrapbooking when she's not at work. She also cherishes time spent with her husband, Tim, and their two daughters and exploring the beauty of Northern Michigan.

Cassandra, the schedule coordinator at Degenhardt Dental, combines administrative expertise with dental knowledge as a licensed hygienist. She skillfully manages the practice's schedule while educating patients on procedures and treatments.

 

Cassandra's passion for building relationships with patients adds a personal touch to her role, creating a welcoming atmosphere in the office. A valued team player, Cassandra appreciates how her colleagues support each other and patients during challenging days, contributing to a positive work environment.

 

Outside work, she embraces an active lifestyle through walking and yoga, finding balance and relaxation. Her green thumb shines in her garden, while her love for reading satisfies her intellectual curiosity. Cassandra's unique hobby of rock hunting for fossils, agates, and "yooperlites" reflects her adventurous spirit and appreciation for natural wonders, adding depth to her well-rounded personality.

Colleen Degenhardt has been an integral part of Degenhardt Dental since 1980 and is truly the heart of the daily operation of the practice. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Michigan University and a Master's degree from Oakland University. In 1987, her passion for technology led to the introduction of computers in the practice's business operations. Later, she oversaw the integration of digital x-rays, a head and neck CT scanner, and CAD/CAM technology for same-day crowns.

 

Throughout her career, Colleen has been a vital member of Degenhardt Dental's clinical and business teams. She continues to serve as the Practice Administrator and IT specialist, consistently bringing the latest dental technology to the practice.

 

Family has always been a cornerstone for Colleen and Dr. Ted Degenhardt. They married in 1982 and raised five children—four boys and their daughter, Katie. Their family has grown to include five wonderful spouses and seven grandchildren. Looking ahead, Colleen and Dr. D eagerly anticipate numerous family gatherings, summers in Charlevoix, and travels together.

Jessica, a seasoned dental hygienist at Degenhardt Dental, began her journey in dentistry in 1997 as a dental assistant before graduating from hygiene school in 2004. With over two decades of experience, she finds joy in building lasting relationships with patients and engaging in meaningful conversations during their regular visits.

 

Passionate about oral healthcare, Jessica is particularly interested in educating patients on the crucial link between oral and overall health. Her enthusiasm for dental wellness matches her diverse interests outside the office.

 

In her free time, Jessica indulges in creative pursuits like drawing, painting, and furniture refurbishing. She also enjoys home remodeling projects, caring for animals, traveling, and attending sporting events.

Renna, a dedicated dental hygienist at Degenhardt Dental since 2022, brings passion and expertise to her role. With experience in the dental field since 2018, she finds fulfillment in helping patients improve their overall well-being through proper oral care. Renna's commitment to patient education and preventive care is evident in her daily practice, complemented by the strong rapport she shares with her coworkers.

 

Outside of work, Renna leads an engaging life filled with diverse interests. She maintains a balanced lifestyle through reading and exercise. As an avid writer, Renna shares her life experiences through her personal blog, offering insights into her professional and personal journey.

 

Her adventurous spirit shines through her unique travel philosophy: never visiting the same place twice. This approach allows Renna to explore as many new destinations as possible, constantly broadening her horizons and gathering fresh experiences to share with her patients and readers.

Amy, a dedicated dental assistant at Degenhardt Dental, has enhanced smiles and patient experiences since 2005. With nearly two decades in the field, she finds immense satisfaction in delivering exceptional dental care and fostering meaningful patient relationships. Amy thrives in the practice's intimate work environment, where her keen eye for detail and hands-on approach truly shine.

 

Her passion for dentistry is matched only by her love for the outdoors. When not assisting in the dental office, Amy can often be found behind a camera lens, capturing nature's beauty through her photography.

Karley, a Registered Dental Assistant, joined Degenhardt Dental in May 2023. She earned her Associate of Applied Science in Dental Assisting from Dental College in Saginaw and is licensed by the state of Michigan.

 

Karley's passion for dentistry was sparked early, leading her to take a Dental Occupations class in high school. This experience solidified her career path in the dental field.

 

When she's not assisting patients, Karley enjoys shopping, spending time with family and friends, and caring for her pets — a cat named Winston and a goldfish named Cheeto. She's also working on improving her golf game in her spare time.

 

 

Katie, a valued team member, has been in the dental field since 2003. Her journey into dentistry began uniquely, starting with overcoming her childhood fears of the dentist. This courageous step conquered her fears and ignited a genuine passion for dental care.

 

Katie received her training and education at a trade school, but her real-world experience began when her family dentist took her under his wing and allowed her to work in his practice. This hands-on mentorship provided invaluable experience and solidified her commitment to the field.

 

Outside of her professional life, Katie is an animal enthusiast. Growing up surrounded by pets, she developed a deep love for all creatures, with a special affinity for horses. Her childhood included horseback riding lessons; to this day, horses hold a cherished place in her heart.

 

Katie's personal experience with dental anxiety allows her to empathize with nervous patients, making her an understanding and compassionate presence in our office. Her journey from a fearful patient to a skilled dental professional brings a unique perspective to our team, enhancing the care we provide to all our patients.
